Hello Parents and WELCOME to the 2008-2009 school year.

I am Tom Mussoline. This year Mr. Steele and I will be your child’s teachers. We are really excited to have your son/daughter in our class and hope to make it a very fun and fulfilling year.

Classroom Rules will be discussed as a class on the first day of school and every day thereafter. Topics we will also discuss are: being respectful, being responsible, listening to others, and working together.

We have 2 new curriculums that we will be using this year.

Everyday Math is our new math curriculum. This curriculum was developed my the University of Chicago and apply everyday circumstances to mathematical situations. We are very excited to start using this curriculum with 2nd grade.

Guided Reading is the curriculum that we will be using for Reading this year. Scholastic Guided Reading Programs delivers the materials that we need to help ALL students become strategic and independent readers.

In addition to these 2 exciting new curriculum the 2nd grade class will be starting something new that will help us learn more about your child as well as your family. This year we will be starting the Start Student program. Each student will have the chance to fill out a form with their parent that tells the class fun and interesting things about them.

Later this month, I will be sending home an informational sheet that will have some basic questions about the Star Student’s family and interests.
